With the actuator attached to a metal object, place a magnet opposite the actuator (as shown in the photos)
Move the magnet side to side or up and down to change the resonance, do this until the sound is corrected.
The plunger which you see vibrate is magnetic
when you place your own magnet on top of it, you either repell or attract the plunger
If it's attracted:
The plunger is being pushed to stay at the surface
Now the vibrations get smaller because it's harder to leave the surface
Conversly the actual force of the vibration stays the same
If it's repelled:
The plunger is being pushed away from the surface
The vibrations get larger because the plunger travels further, being pushed away from the surface
Conversely the actual force remains the same
You'll notice in both cases the force remains the same, so the loudness doesn't change
But the attraction case keeps the vibrations small, this keeps the plunger out of resonance with the sound wave itself, this is what we want.
Too much resonance in the plunger and it'll shake violently, creating the rattling sound.
